MAGS (nickname) arrived at Tyrells in March 2013. He quickly settled, within minutes in fact and has been enjoying the quieter life after a successful career in X Country and Showjumping. He has become best buddies with my boy Yeast. Mags has just had is birthday and is now 22yrs old and deserves his new life with us. His owner who bred him loves being at the yard and has found her life to be much easier with more free-time and is relaxed with the knowledge he is getting lots of TLC.
Mags lives side by side with Brin 7 Inca and they really do love each other. Mags had always wintered stabled but this is was his second year living out and was very successful. They all have a shelter and love using them.
Mags wintered really well and looks fabulous.
UPDATE
Mags was sadly PTS in April. He had banged his head on the shelter (being silly) and it caused a bout of Ataxia (Central nervous system damage). I gave him lots of TLC but his condition was not improving too much and the vet felt he was in danger of hurting himself or me as he was so out of control with his coordination. It was such a heartbreaking decision as he looked perfectly well until he tried to move. I am still not over losing him so suddenly so I haven't yet filled his space.
Here is a tribute to Magnificent MAGS aka Maggiemoo
Well big fella, I'm still in shock that your gone
Of all the horse's here I thought your time would be long,
You arrived after being poorly, not looking your best
But lot's of TLC, Tyrell's guaranteed chill time & a nice rest,
You bounced back to being magnificent, standing tall
With pride in your walk and menacing behaviour to all,
To us that knew you well, it was all just a big front
Charging us whilst poo picking was your favourite stunt,
To a three stride halt then into a full blown rear
Spin around sharp, back feet way up high in the air,
You terrified many with this Mags the big bully
But if we shouted "boo" your legs turned to jelly,
You were the bravest coward that I've ever known
And a joy to my great friend Ali, for you she did own,
I knew you from birth which still make's this all so raw
Saw your success in life in any equine sport you endured,
You mastered them all in the competitive class
Then came to live with me, in retirement on 24/7 grass,
You had many buddies but Brinsley was your bro
Wherever you wandered he would always follow,
Such a happy life you lived whilst being here
But to think that's all over now still brings a tear,
A freak bang of your head on the shelter wall
Gave you Ataxia, You could barely walk without a fall,
We had no choice but to do right by you
But to date, for me, was the hardest thing I've had to do,
To look at you, all was normal until you tried to move
But your brain couldn't send the signal down to your hooves,
I know for a fact your now still roaming about here
As Brin has some of your traits, before I'd never seen,
So go wander freely around Tyrell's my magnificent man
Or gallop about menacingly as you once again can,
I will always miss you and your devilish behaviour
And be so grateful for the three years we had together
Love you lot's my Maggie Moo

Marley arrived in March 2013 for a long spring/summer rest due to recurring lameness. He had been sound with us for over 4 months so it was decided he would go back home in November. After less than two weeks Marley was lame again and his owners decided to put him down. As Marley is only a young horse I took him back and a friend who lives locally took him to be with her (April 2014) She did a little hacking with him but has now moved to the Lake district. It was decided Marley would go back to his owner as I was full at Tyrells and he needs someone special to care for him.
Marley was a real grump when he first arrived at Tyrells in March 2013 but he became a total softie who loved grooms, cuddles or just a quick hello whilst I was poo picking, it was such a transformation. It just goes to show how much pain he was in when he arrived. The farrier Simon Teale did wonders with his feet and Marley became sound and hopefully long may it continue.
UPDATED 15th April 2015 Marley has now gone back to his owners in Chingford as they have another horse and wanted the two horses to be at the same yard. All is going really well and Marley is enjoying his retirement.
UPDATED Summer 2015...... Marley was PTS, his owners couldn't keep him sound and had difficulty finding a suitable place to keep him on retirement as my yard was full & he wasn't the easiest horse to look after. RIP Marley xx

Secret aged 19yrs arrived in May 2013. She is quite a complex little mare who can change from being chilled in the field to being so stressed like the flick of a switch. She had a fabulous summer 24/7 grazing with Marley in the next field and it was truly love at 1st sight for them both. However as the evenings started getting darker she decided she wanted the comfort of the stable. I noticed her getting depressed, please don't think I'm mad she really was!
I called her owner and she came to visit and also noticed her change and we agreed to try stabled livery through winter. She has now happily settled into her new routine and as long as her life is punctual and structured, no deviations, she is happy. When owner's visit she can become stressed, I think she associates this with horses being taken away for riding at her old yard. I have now sussed this out and
make sure she gets a cuddle and I occupy her brain to keep her calm. She is very like my horse in her weird ways but I enjoy the challenge. I now also feel she has a problem with her vision and in winter the sun sits very low and again she becomes stressed. I tried putting her fly visor on and this seems to take away the glare of the sun and she now has snooze's in the field so fingers crossed we have a happy girl now on sunny days.
The vet came to check out Secrets eyes and has confirmed she does have a problem so we are happy there is an explanation for her behaviour and it is manageable. She is very happy now and even with her love Marley leaving us she has stayed content!
Secret has now gone back to 24/7 turnout, she is in a neighbouring field with Brin & Mags and seems to be enjoying herself.
UPDATED
Sadly Secret Was put to sleep on July 25th 2014 due to a severe tendon injury. I did try my hardest to help her recover but she had already had 3 tendons injured in the past (basically why she was retired) and her other front leg was buckling under the strain. Both her owner Kim & I felt it was the kindest thing to do and I can honestly say she left us very peacefully by lethal injection. Although we are devastated at present we know it was the right thing to do. I have many memories of Secret and here is a little something I have put together in her memory.
MEMORIES OF SECRET
When I first met Secret she had just been sedated
Told me “she travels well just the loading she hated”,
After only ten minutes I had gotten her on
And from that moment on life together begun.
My first challenge arrived on the very same day
Gave her a wonderful field but Secret said “Nay”
She paced up and down all night until morning
She was so exhausted she couldn’t stop yawning,
That morning I moved her realising she had to be near
Her fear of separation she’d made perfectly clear.
Second challenge was the flies she would gallop around
So she had to be fly rugged at night just to keep her sound,
Third problem was winter, she wanted her stable
Living out 24/7, she just wasn’t able,
So she came in at night this keeping her happy
Her poor owner must of thought I was doolally.
Secrets needs always came first, her owner was amazing
But fourth problem came with winter’s low sun grazing,
It took me a while but I then realised
Poor Secret had something wrong with her eyes,
The low winter sun would stress her out
And once again she began galloping about,
I tried putting on a fly mask to help with the glare
Hurray, I now had a happy little mare.
I seemed to sort all of her niggles that caused her so much strife
And I can honestly say at Tranquil Tyrells she had a wonderful life,
She was loved and spoilt which won over her trust
I foolishly thought I’d now got it all sussed.
Fifth problem came when she recently damaged her leg
She was hopping around, my heart filled with dread,
It was her only good leg the rest had past tendon injuries
So this factor in mind it was very serious,
I tried my hardest to get the leg right
My luck had run out our final journey now in sight.
Although she was a challenge I loved her so much
I’ll miss her soft muzzle and gentle loving touch,
I’m glad we both had a truly wonderful year
And I made her life happy without any fear,
For once she’d been battered somewhere in her past life
And poor girl would relive it in her times of strife.
She was terrified she would be beaten like before
I’d soothe her with soft words so inner peace would restore
She carried that bad memory to the very end
But I firmly believe she saw me as her friend
So darling Secret we have now said our goodbye’s
I hope your now roaming free in the beautiful blue skies
No pain or fear will you ever endure
And in my memory you’ll be till we meet up once more.
RIP baby girl xxxxx

Tramado AKA Mr Tomato arrived mid May 2013 for a holiday as he had been poorly. He was a super little Lusitano gelding with a very sweet inquisitive nature. He loves a cuddle and a scratch and settled straight away at Tyrells. He was in the field overlooking the stable yard and enjoyed being able to watch the routine of the stabled horses as well as being near Secret who was in the next paddock.
He also liked grazing close to the chickens and wherever he was in the field they were too, usually scratching the ground around his legs.
You could almost tell the time by this little horse he loved his 11am lay down!
UPDATED -Tramado went home late November 2013 and is missed by us all but due to the wonders of facebook we can still keep in touch. Please take a look at the wonderful testimonial his owner Amanda wrote.

George arrived mid June 2013. He is a strapping 17.3hh with only one eye but definitely a "Gentle Giant".
He has settled into life at Tyrells and is mega happy. He is a horse that likes company whether its chickens, cats, dogs or humans he is always gentle and friendly and now has a companion called Dallas. His owner however is finding the transition hard, not having to get up and do her beloved horse each day has left a big void but she is thrilled to see him so happy. At first I thought she was going to take up camp here too!....
He has transformed in condition and life is going to be very rosy for George who had a hard life before his current owner brought him 11yrs ago. In time I hope all his bad memories will be long forgotten, happy retirement George.
UPDATED - 27th July 2014 George is now companion to Scarlet as Dallas left us to be broken and re-homed.
UPDATED - May 5th 2015 George is now companion to Star as Scarlet left end of April.
UPDATED - March 5th 2016 George has sadly gone to horsey heaven. I found him laying down in the field at breakfast time. He had got himself in a slight dip in the field and had been unable to get up. I don't know why, the ground was very slippy and he had obviously been trying for a while but was very calm. I called the fire brigade to see if we could get him back onto his feet. It had been -3 degree's overnight, he was cold, his rugs had twisted in the efforts to get up and was wet and exhausted. The vet assessed his heart as he came for retirement due to heart problems and Arthritis. She told me his heart was weak and it was time to say our goodbye's. Thankfully his owner had driven through the tears all the way from Norfolk Coast to be with him.
Star had been blissfully eating her hay tied up in the field shelter to keep her out of the fireman's way, she hadn't been at all concerned. However the second the vet gave me the bad news Star must of fed from my emotions. I never made a sound but my face must of said it all. Star began calling George frantically and he did give a little feeble nicker back but that was all he had. She broke free and made her way to be near George for the last goodbye. That gesture broke my heart, I knew horses have feelings and sense emotions but that 100% proved it. George passed away peacefully with euthanasia as will any Tyrell's horse, for me it's the only option.
Here is my tribute to this wonderful horse.
As I sit in my tearoom and gaze down at your field
The pain of losing you, each day is revealed,
I expect you to once again wander into view
So I can still see the splendour of the beautiful you,
Such a giant in stature, but so gentle and kind
Always aware of me near you despite being partially blind,
So respectful of me needing my space so I could do
All the wonderful things I daily shared with you,
I remember collecting you from your old yard
Your face said it all, you weren't happy life was hard,
But you loved the quiet life at Tyrells which we let you enjoy
Being an OAP but inside it made you feel like a boy,
Just a few weeks ago you cantered away
Natalie trying to remove your rug on a warm sunny day,
We laughed at you being so cheeky, bobbing around
The thud of your mighty hooves hitting the ground,
I'm so glad it was you that made the decision to leave
Despite the firemen trying to get you up with almighty heaves,
But you hadn't the strength to get up onto your feet
So our only choice was, for you and your maker to meet,
I know your now standing majestic at heaven's gate
And hopefully too, still roaming around Tyrells not far from your mate,
Star was distraught, she had lost her big man
But at 1st sight of her you clearly wasn't a fan,
Dallas your Page 3, Scarlet your plus size
However, soon you realised that Star was older and wise,
She was the perfect mate to end out your days
Roaming the field, sharing the grass & the hay,
I am blessed to have had you for nearly three years
And now writing this, again full flow my tears,
So I'm letting you go, but you'll remain for evermore
My big gentle man who I've loved & adored
RIP Big Man xxxxx

DALLAS arrived late June 2013. She is a very sweet natured filly and only 4yrs old, in need of maturing, so a long holiday at Tyrell's is perfect. She is new companion to George and it was love at 1st sight for them. "Me and my shadow" springs to mind. Hopefully she will learn some of George's lovely manners and calmness . Pure bred Trakehner with a lovely branding, a real looker...... welcome to a lovely world Dallas.
*I now think Dallas will be spending a VERY long time at Tyrell's as her relationship with George is serious and her owner puts Dallas's happiness first. Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!
UPDATED - 27th July 2014 - Due to her owners illness Dallas has now been taken to Kent to be broken and hopefully then find a loving home. She will be missed so much by both George and myself. Good luck sweet little girl! xxx
UPDATE Dallas is getting on really well and after only 3 weeks she is being hacked out and schooled. I am hoping to get to see her soon as I miss her so much but happy she is enjoying her new life.
UPDATED April 15th 2015 Dallas has a new owner and is doing really well, we keep in touch through Face book.
UPDATED 5th Dec 15. Dallas has been diagnosed with a cancerous lump in her throat and no treatment available, many tears have been shed but her owner has decided to let Dallas live out her days as if she is normal as their are no current illness issues other than the diagnosis. I fully support this as a vet told us to put her down two years ago due to her bad conformation but she is still going strong and no lameness. Finger crossed she live's a long long time.
UPDATED It is with great sadness Dallas was PTS last September 2016 as her cancer had enlarged and she had a very short bout of difficulty breathing, her owner Chrissy liased with me the whole time but eventually there was no other choice to be made. To this day we both struggle with the loss of her & blab everytime we talk. A mear baby, with a promising future and so adored for her inner & outer beauty. To lose any horse is hard but one so young and seemingly so full of life her true illness was hidden well. Always loved & often thought of RIP my black beauty x

BRINSLEY iarived Late July 2013. He is the oldest resident at 27yrs and has settled really well already with no running about just head down grazing. He was however a little more cautious than most as he believed monster's were everywhere in the field but now he just ambles about care free, he even ventured into his field shelter on day two and on day four I found him laying down having a snooze, a great achievement!
Welcome to the good life Brin.
Brin and Mags were field companions last winter and they got on so well. Each day they would take it in turns to lay down with the other one standing over being Mr Protector......ah bless!
Sadly I have now put Brin back into a seperate field as he has navicular and needs a quiet life, Mags is still happy to canter round and play which is something Brin can no longer do he likes to just amble about at his own pace. He is such a wonderful old boy, he is the grandad at Tyrells and you can just see all the stories of his life in his expressions.
UPDATED - Brin & Mags are now back sharing a field as mags took losing Secret's badly. Glad to say they are happy as larry again.
UPDATED 15th April 2015 Brin is happy with Mags & Inca as field companions. Due to his navicular I no longer put him in with Mags as he doesn't like the hustle & bustle of Mags exuberance. However he won't tolerate mags being out of sight, they still groom each other over the fence and chill together in the top field side by side.
UPDATED 2017 Brin is still going strong, as bossy as ever but my "War Horse", I love this old boy so much and although we can't have a conversation we understand each other so well. He now live's with Inca as his next door companion and he loves her dearly but WILL NOT share his field with her.
UPDATED 25th July 2019 SADLY I HAD TO SAY GOODBYE TO THIS WARRIOR. HE WAS ON THE FLOOR AT BREAKFAST TIME UNABLE TO GET UP. IT WAS SET TO BE THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR 38DEGREES AND AT 32YRS OLD I FELT IT THE ONLY OPTION. HE HAD ALWAYS MANAGE TO GET UP PREVIOUSLY ON THE VETS ARRIVAL BUT TODAY HE JUST LIFTED HIS HEAD. I KNEW IT WAS HIS TIME, HE GENTLY DRIFTED OFF HIS HEAD IN MY ARMS. RIP BIG BOY XX

SCARLET arrived early July 2014. She is a 15hh mare, very, very sweet well mannered little lady. She is only 9yrs old but has always been a difficult ride bordering on dangerous. With this in mind her owner would never of sold her on so decided to retire her with me. Some owner's are so good and responsible.
She is George's new field companion now Dallas has gone. I think she is going to have to work hard to win his love as Dallas was his blue eyed girl. Having said that they get on very well already and have been moved into Orchard paddock. I'm hoping the old saying "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach" may work so fresh grass and a new pretty lady, what more could George want???
UPDATED 15th April 2015 George & Scarlet are blissfully happy
UPDATED MAY 2015 Scarlet's owner decided to take her back and put henr back into work. A very sad and stressful time for both George & I but we wish them well. xx
UPDATED 2017 Scarlet is still enjoying life as a hack.

INCA arrived Mid August. She doesn't travel well so her owner had to lead her from Royston which is quite a long walk. Gladly they all made it in one piece and so far all is going really well. Inca has made friends with Brin & Mags her new neighbours. She is a very pretty, gentle little mare and she loves lots of attention......and food!
She has been retired due to recurring lameness over the last 6yrs. Her owner lives locally so Tyrells is ideal for weekend visits.
UPDATED 2017 Inca is living with Brin next door & blissfully happy & chilled at Tyrells.
UPDATED JULY 2018 SADLY INCA WAS PTS AFTER A BATTLE WITH EMS. DESPITE A LONG TIME OF TRYING TO GET HER SOUND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS GIVEN AND IT WAS OUR ONLY OPTION. SHE WAS THE SWEETEST MARE. EVEN AFTER 6WKS CONFINEMENT SHE WAS THE HAPPIEST GIRL, ALWAYS UP FOR A LOVE. SHE SPENT HER LAST FEW HOURS OUT OF CONFINEMENT IN HER FIELD GRAZING HAPPILY UNTIL THE VET ARRIVED. A TRULY SAD DAY RIP BEAUTIFUL INCA.

UPDATECOOKIE arrived late September. He has a leg injury which needs time to heal. His owner has already tried a rehab yard but that was unsuccessful as Cookie has several issue's which make him a complex chap to look after. He is a very cheeky chap and I'm sure in the wrong hands it could end in tears. I am taking time to address his issue's. He seems a bit institutionalized and very scared of the outside world. It is natural for a horse to graze out in a field with other horses nearby..........usually! Not so with Cookie, he hates being outside unless your with him. If you leave him he goes crazy...............not the ideal solution for a leg injury.
I am happy to say he is now starting to graze alone. This has only been achieved by giving him a play pen directly from his stable and now it is extended into the field. He can go in & out as he pleases and finally he seems to be relaxing more. His other issue is he likes to nip and when he is stressed in anyway this can become quite aggressive. I'm glad to say now he is chilling more his temperament has improved. It is early days yet but underneath all his bravado he actually is a big softy and loves to be loved. Fingers crossed with this one!
UPDATE......Sadly Cookie has been returned to his owner due to me having flu in January. During this time I relied on other's to help me with the horses and I couldn't trust Cookie with other people. He had become really good with me and almost normal but anyone new I couldn't guarantee their safety I am very sad about this as I worked so hard overcoming his issues and he had changed so much but I had to be realistic, I am not superwoman and at times I need other's help. I miss him lots and hope he finds the right person to love him as his owner is keen to find him a good home as a hack. He would be a super horse, you just have to understand him and listen to him. This is something we learnt together........horses are so educational.
UPDATED 14th July 2015 Cookie is doing very well at his new yard he is still on field rest but a happy boy
UPDATE Cookie was sadly PTS

STAR arrived with me the first week in May. She was in a terrible condition although she had been liveried at a specialist retirement home in Norfolk. At 29yrs old she deserved so much more and her owner was heart broken, as we all would be. Anyway she has ended up with me and is certainly living the high life. I really wasn't sure how long it would take for her to regain her health but within weeks she was improving. She is George's field buddy and although it definitely wasn't LOVE at 1st sight they now get on well. Star was quite shut down in character too on arrival but she has got her mojo back and is very cheeky!
Here is a photo guide of her arrival and progress to health.
UPDATED March.. Star is now looking for a new companion as we sadly had George PTS the first weekend in March.
UPDATED Sept 28th 2016. Sadly Star was PTS today due to a ruptured ovary. It was very peaceful and the only choice we could make. I miss her terribly as she was very dear to me due to the journey back to her health made us very close. I still imagine her at the gate each day waiting for her cuddles & polo's.
Here is a tribute to her
STAR
I remember your arrival one warm, sunny May day
You had on a rug, I thought it odd when your owner did say,
“Please don’t take her rug off until after I am gone”
For underneath she knew you were just skin & bone,
She’d placed you in a retirement home out Norfolk way
But I’m convinced you’d lacked good food & lots of hay,
In a field with many other horses you’d been back of the queue
And regular removal of your rugs they must have failed to do,
The vet had done loads of test’s to determine why you were so thin
But nothing had been found so your future was looking dim,
However after your arrival here you soon began to bloom
Nothing wrong with you other than decent food & a good groom,
I got off you a whole wheelbarrow of dead matted hair
And once all gone I saw my beautiful Star standing there.
You lived with Big George & loved your life here
Being opinionated & bossy was what made you so dear,
But the day we lost our George you came to live on the yard
The first few days were so awful you found it really hard,
Dripping with sweat & calling for your partner into the night
It broke my heart to think this time, I couldn’t put it right,
Eventually you settled & accepted your new routine
And then with the arrival of Little Cindy you had a new team,
You both got on well & I moved you to a new field
Where you had a fantastic summer, which was so chilled.
I am so proud knowing that I turned your life around
My No.1 priority was to keep you safe and sound,
Tyrell’s achieved that and beyond we’d made your life so good
So something was very wrong when you didn’t want your food,
The vet was called immediately, a ruptured ovary diagnosed
Your owner came to see you, and then the excruciating pain arose,
We had no choice we couldn’t bare to see you in such pain
So the vet was called back to the yard once again,
We said our goodbyes to you, it was peaceful to the end
And I hope now your back with Big George your best friend.
Thank you for our time together it will always be so dear
And I will take comfort now your ashes are remaining here
You have Mags by your side so you’ll never be alone
And I know for sure that Tyrells was your truly special home.
Rest in Peace my beautiful Star xxxx

JBOY 21yrs old & MIA 24yrs old arrived July 4th. They settled the minute they got off the lorry and have never looked back. They absolutely love life at Tyrells and I have nicknamed them "the two pea's" as everything they do together. I have never met two horses so devoted to each other and it is a joy to look after them. Mia was rescued from the meat man by her owner Beth for £100 and she adore's Beth they really have a special bond. Beth brought J boy to ride but Mia fell in love with him and so proved quite difficult when they were separated so Beth decided to retire him too for Mia's happiness. They live here in the orchard paddock and love it's tranquility, they also use their shelter all the time.
UPDATED 2017 JBoy & Mia are still loving life here & a real pleasure to care for. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them xx
UPDATE October 22nd 2017 Jboy was sadly PTS due to a serious bone infection in the hoof which proved untreatable despite 6 weeks of trying everything. This was a huge loss for all of us, especially Mia who adored him. I have now paired Mia up with Ben & they get on really well already.
J-BOY
The 4th August 2015 was when you arrived
Your darling mate Mia stood by your side,
We expected you both to have a good run around
But you were instantly settled, your final home was found,
Everything you did you had a living shadow nearby
Your bond together was unique I will never know why,
I could sit & watch you both for hours, incredible to see
Matching stride for stride you became known as “the two peas”.
From the day you came your feet were always a concern
Now I’m the best poulticer ever, from doing you I soon learnt,
Could do you out in the field no head collar in sight
I trusted you completely you never put up a fight,
My gentle sweet boy but you did have some quirks
Had to put your rug on gently you didn’t like jerks,
You’d buck out behind and pull a snarling face
But really your manners were impeccable never a disgrace.
In spring you’d develop an allergy to eating the hay
This would always prompt me to take it away,
Yet all winter you could eat as much as you pleased
But when it flared up only with Piriton it would ease,
I once tried to take you both into a field of better grass
But you both lost the plot and getting you back a scary task,
Both up on your hind legs prancing and so strong
But you only wanted your old field back that’s all that was wrong.
Once back through your gate you both gave a huge sigh
Orchard paddock to you both was so special, again I don’t know why?
Your final summer you had problems your feet were so sore
But trying to fix them was a labour of love never a chore,
But try as I might another new abccess would appear
Mia began to distance herself, she’d stopped being near,
This was a huge clue that things were worse than we thought
A pedal bone disease diagnosed the infection couldn’t be caught
We tried so many cure’s but all of them in vain
We no longer could watch you hobble round in such pain,
But saying goodbye was harder than you’ll ever know
Mia moo was heartbroken why did you have to go.
We know we made the right decision to remove you from pain
And now your ashes are at Tyrells your spirit will remain,
So now you can shadow Mia’s every stride from above
For nothing will ever break your bond of true love.
Rest in Peace my gentle boy we’ll miss you forever
And stay by her side till your once again back together.
Love you always xxxx

CINDY arrived with me in early May.(This pic is of the day she arrived). She is the sweetest little lady and as you can see she was a little tubby on her arrival so I was very worried about her getting laminitis as my grass is so rich. Sure enough within a week she was showing signs so after veterinary confirmation I decided to move her and Star to a new field where I could manage her grazing intake. She was put on confinement but not just locked in a stable, she had an area to move about too. Gradually I introduced her onto a mown lawn area which has now become a decent sized paddock for her. Star is next to her during the day on better grass and joins her at night in their shelter area. They both love each other and are perfectly happy with the regime.
UPDATED 2017
Cindy now looks a different pony now having managed to maintain a healthy weight & so far hasn't had problems with the spring grass (long may it continue) Such a sweet little mare but with attitude & certainly keeps the boys in their place!

TICO & ME

TICO & RUDY arrived October 2016. Rudy is only 7yrs old and dear Tico is 31yrs old. Not the best match but as they have the same owner they had been together already. At first Rudy was a real live- wire but over time he is learning to relax. Both such individual characters "chalk & cheese" but somehow they manage to enjoy each others company.
UPDATE Tico was sadly PTS after a severe uterus infection was diagnosed and sadly all treatment given was unsuccessful in preventing the recurrence of the problem once antibiotics finished. Despite not being in the best of health on arrival she had a wonderful time at Tyrells and her last 6 weeks whilst on medication & antibiotic she began to look and feel amazing and that is how I will
always remember her now.
TICO
From the day you arrived I thought something wasn’t right
Your coat was long & dull and your eye’s were never bright,
You would wander round the field as if it was such a chore
But to be a happy Tyrell’s retiree, I certainly wanted more,
No matter what I fed you, condition would come and then go
No reason for this to happen your progress was far too slow,
Then at your routine vaccination I asked the vet to check if all was well
She didn’t like the look of you but said it was very hard to tell,
Further examinations & tests were needed so a date was set
But the very next day I wasn’t happy so I called the emergency vet,
Your condition had worsened, I could see you were really ill
And it definitely wasn’t going to be fixed by just giving you a pill,
A diagnosis was made uterine infection and the prognosis wasn’t good
But your owner decided she wanted the vets to do all they could,
A whole week of vets visits & treatments you began to look okay,
You gained weight, your coat shone & spring in your step each day,
You became a happy horse, trotting & cantering around,
Gone were the drudging steps, you really looked very sound,
Your eye’s were bright, you had some spark, Rudy was in fear,
You’d found your mojo once again and took no messing when Rudy came near,
However, when the medication course finished within days you’d decline,
It was obvious to me that my darling Tico wasn’t fine,
The infection kept arising and the poor old girl came back,
So another course of antibio’s and then we were back on track,
However four courses later we knew we’d lost our fight,
We couldn’t let you suffer we had to do what was right,
It was such a hard decision as you looked the best you had for years,
On our last day together, so many hugs whilst fighting back the tears,
But I’m so glad you came to Tyrells even if only for a short while,
Knowing your last six weeks were happy it will always make me smile,
I wish it had been for so much longer but that was not to be
We grew so close and the love was mutual, forever in my heart you’ll be.
Love you old girl xxx

BEN arrived 11th July 2017. He had been on my waiting list for a few months so had been placed at another retirement facility in June as I was full. During only 1 month of being there he had endured endless bullying and was in a real mess on arrival at Tyrells and I have to say quite traumatized. It took me several weeks to gain his trust but within one month he was looking a picture of health & happiness. SEE PICTURE
He is a huge horse with a very loving personality. He was paired with Rudy at first but as Rudy is quite lively and Ben had the nasty experience at the previous yard he often felt intimidated by Rudy's exuberance. I have recently paired him up with Mia and they have bonded really well.

FRENCHIE
Frenchie arrived November 2017. He is a big, beautiful grey and typical TB type. He had a tough winter with recurring abcess problems but I'm happy to report he is now doing really well and enjoying life as Rudy's companion. Rudy isn't the easiest horse to live with but Frenchie has mastered the art & I couldn't of wished for a better pairing. They get on so well always lay down so close they almost interlock. Frenchie is an ex racer but had been rehabilitated into a working horsey life which he did very well.

ELIZA arrived July 2018 to be Brinsleys new companion. She is a kind mare but doesn't have any demands other than food. She is probably the most self sufficient horse I've ever looked after. She enjoys a groom but equally could do without. Such an easy horse to look after. Her exact age isn't known but between 24-26yrs has been the vets guess. She was retired due to several age related problems but is sound and very happy here. She isn't that loved up with Brin and won't allow him to groom her but she does graze nearby and if he goes into his stable she will go into hers. She likes to be nearby but not too close it's definitely not love !

HARRY arrived September 2018. He had been retired earlier that year after severe lameness but was a very happy boy. He is the sweetest TB I have ever met, he is so laid back and accepts anything you ask of him. He is 28yrs old, ex-racer but had been a real fun horse and given his owner so much happiness. I am happy to say he is fully sound now and his feet look amazing my farrier Anthony Somerville has worked so hard and full credit goes to him. Harry is visited weekly and adores his owner.
